A Roaring Fire

I had a hard time getting to sleep last night, so I decided to read through a journal that I had during my adult years before I got married. There is an excerpt in one entry that is actually copied from a letter I sent to a friend who was serving a mission for our church.

It is an analogy that one of the bishopric members in my single's ward used in a testimony meeting in October of 2002 that I think is very profound. I will explain it in my own words...

The gospel of Jesus Christ is like a roaring fire, the Savior being the source of it's flames. We are, each of us, coals that keep that fire burning. If you take your coal out of the fire and let it sit, it will eventually stop glowing and become cold and dark.

We have the power to keep our coals in that fire, or return it to that fire, to let the Savior's love help us glow again. If we thrust ourselves into the Lord's gospel, and devote our lives to Him, and His gospel,  helping the flames of truth and righteousness grow brighter, we will only be helping ourselves grow brighter as well.

How do we keep ourselves in the fire? We attend our church meetings, read our scriptures, and pray. We remain faithful to our loving Savior and to our Father in Heaven. There are so many other things we can do as well, but those basics will help us keep ourselves in the light of the gospel and keep us from becoming cold and dark.

I am so grateful to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and come what may, I will always strive to keep myself in that fire, and strive to help those I love stay true to themselves and the Lord too.

I love you all,
Heidi Marie
